A physician like his father and grandfather, he moved with his father to Kentucky from New York about 1820. He ran for State Legislature under the American "Know Nothing" Party in 1855 at Covington, Kentucky. 216

He may be the son of John's brother Charles who lived in Maryland and who died when Thomas was young. 12. WILLIAM4 MORGAN (David, #24) 303,304,305 was born after 1781. He married Susannah Spurlock (see #13), daughter of John Spurlock and Frances Toney, circa 1800. 306 He died on 12 Oct 1813 at Floyd Co., Kentucky, killed by Edward Osborn in debt dispute with William's father David. 307, 308

He was a volunteer on 10 Dec 1805 in the 56th Regiment, Kentucky "Cornstalk" Militia, as a Major. 309 His death left three children who inherited his share of David Morgan's land and slaves. He also had two sons with Elizabeth Salisbury whom he never married. After his death, David's mother bequethed land to Elizabeth's sons. As adults the sons used Morgan as their last name.

14. JUDGE JOHN4 GRAHAM (David, #28) 326,327,328 was born on 1 Jan 1765 at Augusta Co., VA, and orphaned at the age of three. 329 He married Rebecca Witten (see #15), daughter of Thomas J. Witten Jr. and Eleanor Cecil, on 10 Feb 1803 at Tazewell Co., VA. 330, 331 He died on 20 Apr 1835 at Emma, Floyd Co., Kentucky at age 70. 332 At the time of his death he owned thirteen slaves. His will reads in part "I will and bequeath to my beloved wife, Rebecca Graham...one Negro boy named Henry, one Negro girl named Delpha, also one Negro woman named Rachel and one Negro boy named Nelson: also all the geese, fifteen head of sheep, four cows and calves one brown mare, one black horse Snap and twenty head of hogs, also all the dead victuals, corn oat and hay on the farm..." 333

When he was ten years old, he enlisted in the 8th Virginia Regt., Continental Line, Capt. George Vallandingham's Co., on 5 Oct 1775 157 days service during the American Revolution. 334 He was probably educated at Liberty Hall (later Washington and Lee University). 335 He was in 1786 in Captain William Price's Co., Kentucky Militia, nineteen days active service probably against the Chickamauga Indians. 336 Between 1787 and 1820, Graham surveyed approximately 100,000 acres of the Big Sandy Valley and eastern Kentucky for Col. John Preston. He surveyed the original plan of the town of Prestonburg, KY. 337 "He became the acknowledged leader in the Upper Big Sandy country. In turn he was surveyor, legislator, merchant, banker, landowner, and judge. He was instrumental in the formation of Floyd County in 1799 when it encompassed then present day counties of Eastern Kentucky. He was a man possessed of eccentric moods, one exhibiting at times the careful calculation of good business and again the liberality of a great heart." At the time of his death he owned thirteen slaves. 338 He was elected Circuit Court Judge on 28 Jun 1808 at Floyd Co., Kentucky. 339

REBECCA4 WITTEN (Thomas, #30) 373,374 was born on 29 Jan 1775 at Headwaters of the Clinch River, Tazewell (then Washington) Co., VA. 375, 376, 377, 378 She married Judge John Graham (see #14), son of David Graham and Jane Armstrong, on 10 Feb 1803 at Tazewell Co., VA. 379, 380 She died on 28 Aug 1843 at Emma, Floyd Co., Kentucky, at age 68. 381,382 In her will the Negro boy Henry is set free and the Negro girl Zerelda given to Ann Morgan. 383

She was a Methodist. In 1837 she was assessed tax for 250 acres of first class land, 5 slaves and 5 horses. 384
