Elsie grew up in mill towns in northwest Wisconsin with six brothers.

12 In the 1890s, she and the rest of her family fled a disastrous forest fire by jumping into a nearby lake. 13 She was employed at Bruce, WI, as an elementary school teacher in 1910. 14

In 1912 she moved to Montana with her parents where they built a farm. She homesteaded land and taught school. She married Frank Romuald Wilma, son of Ignatz Wilma and Anna Agatha Potratz, on 10 Aug 1915 at Malta, Montana. 8 After marriage, she and her husband farmed on her homestead near Wagner, Montana for five years.

When they proved the land, they sold out and moved to Washington settling in 1923 in Kelso. 15 During World War II, Elsie resumed her teaching career to help with the labor shortage and she continued after the war until she retired. 16

Children of Elsie Oleaf1 Dorn and Frank Romuald Wilma were as follows:

  •     2  i.   Delos Dorn2 Wilma was born on 13 Jun 1917 at Malta, Montana. He married Agnes Genevieve Evans, daughter of James Alfred Evans and Edna Eaden, on 13 Feb 1941 at Kelso, WA. He died on 10 Sep 2009 at Longview, WA, at age 92.
          He was known as Dee and was named after his mother's brother Delos Dorn who was killed in a railroading accident shortly before he was born. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1940 Forestry. He was assistant superintendent between 1940 and 1982 at Longview Fibre, Longview, WA.


  •     3  ii.   William Eugene Wilma was born on 13 Jan 1919 at Malta, Montana. He married Lesley June Banks in 1945. He died on 19 Jan 1953 at Oakland, California, at age 34 in an auto accident.
          His nick name was Gene. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served as a pilot of flying boats in the Pacific. He was discharged a Lieutenant Commander. He was a salesman in 1952.


  •     4  iii.   Francis Richard "Dick" Wilma was born on 12 Jun 1920 at Malta, Montana, his parents lived in a sod house on a homestead near Wagner. He married Sally Flood, daughter of Edmund Everett Flood and Pebble May Fisk, on 6 Dec 1945 at Oakland, California. He and Sally Flood were divorced in 1973 at Seattle, WA.
    Francis Richard "Dick" Wilma married Elma Shover on 18 Nov 1976 at Seattle, WA. He died on 1 Sep 2005 at Seattle, WA, at age 85.



  •     5  iv.   Douglas Coleman Wilma was born on 17 Jun 1933 at Longview, WA, at the Coleman residence where his mother and brothers took refuge from a flood. He married Sheila Anne Steffen on 20 Jun 1958 at Dinuba, California.
          He was trained as a navigator between 1952 and 1977 at the U.S. Air Force. He retired a Colonel. He served a tour in Viet Nam as an RF-4 navigator.


She died on 6 Aug 1976 at Longview, WA, at age 87.
